Applying to the Department of Art at the University of Delaware

Any student seeking to major in any discipline in the Department of Art at the University of Delaware must submit a portfolio of creative work and a written essay to be evaluated by the Department Admissions Committee (DAC). This is in addition to your application to the University of Delaware.

Please Note: Portfolio Uploads and Log-in has been disabled as we perform maintenance on this website. Full site functionality will resume in time to submit applications to the department for Fall 2009 admission.

Overview of events

  1. Upon receipt of an application form, the University Office of Admissions responds to all applicants to the Department of Art with a letter outlining the portfolio and essay requirements for admission.
  2. Applicant submits the portfolio and essay to the DAC web site at this web site. The site will collect all images, the associated details and the essay. Instructions are included for your reference.
  3. Portfolios and essays are due:

For freshman candidates:

February 1 for Regular Decision freshman candidates.

For all transfer candidates (students from another institution and those from the University of Delaware):

November 1 for students seeking Spring Transfer Admission.

April 1 for students seeking Fall Transfer Admission.

At each review, the portfolios are ranked into three categories. The three categories are:

Admissible
Not admissible
Wait-listed—Applicant’s portfolio will be reevaluated against new applications at a subsequent date

Please remember that a positive evaluation from the DAC is not a guarantee of admission. Students majoring in the Department of Art must also meet the academic requirements for admission to the University. In the event of a negative evaluation from the DAC, students who are academically admissible may be offered an alternative major by the Office of Admissions.
